Not a good solo. There's nothing to it, really. Tom's a good musician and has written and played some great stuff, but this particular episode isn't among them.

Yea,
The crowd he's playing for in this video doesn't agree with you, but to each his own. My question is, if you don't like this solo, who's solo do you like?

Well, there are many solos that I like. But solo, as in "stand-alone, pure instrumental" song, isn't what I'm thinking. There are many solos within a song that I like, such as Mark Knophler's solos in "Sultans of Swing", or many of Tom's other solos, such as the last half of "Hitch a Ride". That's great stuff right there. What he's doing in this particular video seems to be just tapping along the fret board, so it's not really a solo; more like an exercise.

For what it's worth, I'm very much looking forward to seeing Boston in concert in Phoenix this summer. :)

Tapping on the fretboard is what EVH and many others do during live performances, however no guitarist can please everyone all the time. If you look across You Tube you will find fans of everyone and fans who don't like some of what some guitarists do, while liking other things.

I can understand what you're saying. I've been a guitarist for decades and that tapping is nothing new, just fun to play. I do not like to rely on it, I prefer extreme picking because it requires more effort. That's my opinion anyway.
